Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Gonzalez-Collins is a Mexican American broadcaster. She works for ESPN as the SportsCenter News Anchor. She began her career at ESPN in the year 2016. The daughter of TV reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta has been bilingual since the age of nine. Her skills were instrumental in securing her first position as an assistant to the production team at Univision Miami in which she worked with the producers of programs including Nuestra Belleza Latina and Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud. In St. Petersburg, she was then hired to the CBS station as the sports reporter. Her move to Rio Grande Valley in 2009 to become a reporter at one of the Spanish stations KNVO TV 48 Univision, as well as Fox2 News. In 2009, she moved into Rio Grande Valley, Texas and became a journalist for KNVO 48 Univision and Fox2 News. The duties of anchoring on sports and weather was also frequently demanded. Later, she was anchor and reporter on Univision's Dallas affiliate Deportes 23 where she was given more responsibilities. She was a reporter for the Major League Baseball ALDS ALCS World Series, the Dallas Cowboys and the NBA Postseason as well as the finals for FC Dallas FC Dallas Stars. Additionally, she was host of on the regional Univision 23 sports show Accion Deportiva Extra. She was hired as sports anchor for Despierta America Deportes for their morning show. It was the same role for Primer Impacto magazine and Contacto Deportivo on UniMas Network. Antonietta Collin's parents are originally from Veracruz Mexico. The family moved to Mexico City, where Antonietta Collins was born in November of 1985. There is also an older sister. In 1992, the family moved to Miami following the move from Mexico in the US. Within a brief time her father split from her mother. She later remarried in the year 1995 to a naval architect called Fabio Fajardo. Fabio Fajardo passed away from kidney cancer in 2006. While on a trip with the family in Ohio, the young Collins was able to take a job along with her sister. Antonietta is a senior in high school, yet she was clear about the career she wanted to pursue. So while assessing if Mount Union is the right choice to her needs, Antonietta visited the university. At the end of the day she was enthralled with the campus. And they offered her an academic major. She completed her schooling and was admitted to the university with a degree of media studies. Professor Mark Bergmann, who managed WRMU FM and was member of her class, formed an ongoing friendship with her. Mark Bergmann was the person who instilled her faith and confidence, as well as whose enthusiasm for Journalism deeply touched her. She was determined to exceed his expectations, never letting him down.
